Unique, traditional, beautiful - Germany's Christmas Market No.1
Is there anything unique about your market and/or region?
The Nuremberg Christmas Market is officially opened by the Nuremberg Christmas Angel (chosen every other year from different female applicants aged between 16 and 19). The opening ceremony with the prologue of the Christmas Angel usually takes place at 17.30 hrs on the Friday before the first Advent. The opening ceremony is broadcasted almost worldwide by international TV stations.
In addition, Nuremberg has an own Christmas Market for Children. It is located on the Hans-Sachs-Platz - only a few footsteps away from the Main Market Square, where the famous Nuremberg Christmas Market takes place. It's a children's "dreamland" with a most spectacular, old two-level merry-go-round, a steam railway and child oriented little houses offering special activities like baking of Christmas cookies, candle making or Christmas handicrafts. The highlight: The Nuremberg Christmas Angel visits the Children's Christmas Market on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at about 14.30 hrs in order to invite children to a free ride on the merry-go-round!
